Guided by Cesare, a talented local artist, you will bring your artwork to life. An artistic experience ‘en plein air’ and in the studio, serving as an opportunity for creative expression and engagement with beauty.
During your stay, you’ll have the opportunity to visit the home and museum of Ortega, a renowned Spanish painter from Picasso’s school, who found refuge in Bosco due to persecution by the Francoist regime. You’ll also get the chance to meet local artists active in the area, including painters, sculptors, ceramicists, goldsmiths, restorers, and mosaic artists. Additionally, you’ll contribute to reducing environmental impact by consuming local, seasonal organic food and using natural soaps and detergents produced on-site from locally grown medicinal herbs.
In this experience, you’ll have the opportunity to learn the secrets of painting, including palette organization using just 5 colors, the use of mediums such as oils, essences, and varnishes, selecting the most suitable brushes, the influence of light on colors (tonal painting), techniques of body and glaze painting, ‘alla prima’ painting, sketch-based painting, the use of glazes, and ancient materials and techniques.
The facility hosting you not only offers a charming location and the authentic flavors of the land but also provides you with paints, easels, and all the necessary equipment to spend entire days immersed in ‘en plein air’ and studio art, creating true-to-life reproductions of landscapes, still lifes, and figures.
Day 1 On the first day, after your arrival in the early afternoon and check-in to your rooms, there will be a presentation and introduction to the workshop at 5:00 PM. Later, at 8:30 PM, you can indulge in a dinner featuring local organic products.
Day 2
The second day will begin with a rejuvenating breakfast, followed by a workshop starting at 10:00 AM. You will have the opportunity to learn the fundamental basics of painting, including the theory of drawing, color, and composition. After a delicious lunch on-site at 1:00 PM, you will be able to put into practice the skills learned in the morning by creating an artwork.
The evening will be free for you to enjoy your time as you prefer.
Day 3
On the third day, after a delicious breakfast, we will set out for an exciting visit to the village of Bosco. You will have the opportunity to discover the home and museum of Ortega, a Spanish painter from Picasso’s school, who was exiled to Bosco due to persecution by the Francoist regime. The visit continues to the ceramic mural executed by the master Peppino Miratonda from Matera, based on a design by painter Ortega. The mosaic depicts the events of the 1828 uprising, which saw Bosco plundered and destroyed by the Bourbon army. Next, you will admire another captivating ceramic mural created by a renowned local artist, master Peppino Miratonda from Matera, based on a design by painter Ortega. At 1:00 PM, you will return to the facility to conclude this extraordinary artistic experience.
